Site Variables

The purpose of site variables is typically to provide options or thresholds for how Geometry is interpreted and how GCDs are extracted, similar to how plant variables control which costing logic is applied when costing a part.

Site variables are stored in the aPriori database, so the same values are applied to all users connected to that aPriori database. Users do not need to do anything to "import" the values because values that are changed take effect the next time GCDs are extracted/re-extracted for a given part.

By default, users with "VPE Admin" permissions can edit site variables. However, you can apply access control permissions so that a VPE Admin can update VPE data but not site variables, if desired.

Site variable best practices

We recommend that you use the following best practices to ensure that Digital Factory changes are applied in a controlled and consistent manner:

  • Make any Digital Factory modifications in a staging environment before moving them to production.

  • Create a data maintenance plan for each Digital Factory to ensure that Digital Factory data is kept current.

  • Do not modify site variables unless advised to do so by aPriori Customer Support or their aPriori technical account team representative. Specific items that are "safe" to change will be documented in Release Notes and Cost Model Guide.
