Locking and unlocking scenarios

As a component design is evolving, you might want to capture the cost at particular stages and keep it without changing for future references. If you do not want any changes to be made to a particular scenario, you can lock that scenario to prevent editing. Locking an assembly scenario does not lock the assembly’s subcomponent scenarios. Because the cost of active subcomponent scenarios can change, those changes are reflected in the locked assembly scenario costs. Create an assembly snapshot if you want to lock the assembly and all its subcomponents. For more information, see Using the Scenario Menu.

Lock a scenario:

  • Right-click the scenario in the Navigation pane and select Lock from the context menu.

  • Select Scenario > Lock Scenario from the aPriori menu bar.

  • Right-click a cost object on the Assembly Details tab and select Lock from the context menu.

The scenario icon displayed in the Navigation pane and on the component scenario tab changes to show that the scenario is locked. The Assembly Details tab also shows a Locked column indicating the lock status of a scenario.

Roll-up snapshots and comparison snapshots are locked automatically.

Unlock a scenario

Do one of the following steps to unlock a scenario:

  • Right-click the locked scenario in the Navigation pane and select Unlock from the context menu.

  • Select Scenario > Unlock Scenario from the aPriori menu bar.

  • Right-click a cost object on the Assembly Details tab and select Unlock from the context menu.

The scenario icon displayed in the Navigation pane and on the component scenario tab changes to show that the scenario is unlocked, and the scenario can be edited.

Roll-up snapshots and comparison snapshots are locked automatically and cannot be unlocked.

Locking the scenario of a part or assembly

You can lock an assembly to preserve a specific state of the assembly costs and prevent unauthorized edits at the subcomponent level.

Locking a component scenario affects the behavior of the application when refreshing GCDs or updating the CAD model. aPriori attempts to open and update any active scenario GCDs whenever a CAD model is opened or modified in the CAD system. If an active scenario is locked, the update is not possible, and you are presented with the following options:

  • Open the locked scenario without updating.

  • Create a new scenario and update it with new GCDs. The new scenario does not become the official one, even if the original was the official scenario. The original scenario remains locked.

  • Pick another existing unlocked scenario and update it with new GCDs. The original scenario remains locked and unchanged. This last option is only available if other unlocked scenarios exist for the part

Locking the official scenario of an assembly prevents assembly GCDs from updating and prevents access to all assembly-level edit commands. The Assembly Details tab provides a Locked column indicating the lock status of a scenario.
