Validation and Design Guidance

The Validation tab is available for every part-based process group except User Guided.

The Design Guidance tab is intended for design engineers using the following supported process groups.

  • 2-Model Machining
  • Basic Stamping
  • Bar & Tube Fabrication
  • Casting - Die Casting
  • Casting - Investment
  • Casting - Sand
  • General Milling
  • General Turning
  • Plastic Molding
  • Progressive Die Stamping
  • Sheet Metal
  • Sheet Material Compound

A complete list of available process groups is available in the UI.

The Validation and Design Guidance tabs provide centralized information, functionality, and context-sensitive guidance to help you validate/modify assumptions made by aPriori and then evaluate and address design details.

This is a self-documenting area of the UI. aPriori has brought together information and functionality from across the product and consolidated it with detailed explanations in the UI and suggestions intended to guide the design engineer in identifying and evaluating common areas for cost savings, and providing recommendations to make improvements in either aPriori or the CAD model.

A validation view is available for all part level process groups that cost using a CAD model.

The validation view for the most recently supported process groups will only show up if the cost model has the plant variable genericValidation = true.

This plant variable has been added to all the most recent cost model versions but can also be added to older cost model versions. Additionally, a lookup table validationDisplayControls in the cost model is used to define which panels should show up for each process group. The validation view should show mostly appropriate panels without the validationDisplayControls lookup table defined, but for more precise display the lookup table should be in place.

Users can configure the validation panel for the process groups listed above, so Digital Factory Administrators can now control which panels and metrics show up for which process groups. This is done using a lookup table validationDisplayControls in the cost model as shown in the following example. This lookup table must have the columns panelName and display. It can control the following panels and must use the exact panelName values as outlined below and either yes or no in the display column.
