Groups, Permissions and Resources

If your aPriori Administrator is using Access Control for your aPriori deployment, you are a member at least one group and that group has a set of permissions that determines how it can interact with your organization's resources.

Therefore, to understand what your Access Control model allows you to do in aPriori Professional, you must understand both:

  • Which groups you are in and what permissions your groups have for working with resources. Your aPriori Administrator can provide that information.

  • What Groups, Permissions, and Resources are.

Groups

Groups are collections of users. Every aPriori user belongs to one or more groups. Every group is assigned a set of permissions that apply to your organization's resources.

To learn what group you are in, contact your organizations aPriori System Administrator.

Permissions

Permissions are expressions made up of resources, actions, and rules, but for the purposes of this discussion, we only consider the actions which are the aPriori operations that can be permitted or denied by Access Control:

  • Create

  • Read

  • Update

  • Delete

  • Cost using

These permissions are mostly self-explanatory except for Cost Using which only applies only to Digital Factories and determines whether you can cost a component against a particular Digital Factory.

Note: There is also another advanced permission called "Associate" which administrators use with Permissions and Groups.

Resources

Here are all the target resources that aPriori Access Control can create rules for:

  • Components: Includes Parts and Assemblies

  • Roll-ups: Includes basic Roll-ups, Dynamic Roll-ups, and Cost Comparisons

  • Digital Factories

  • Advanced resources for Groups and Permissions administrators implement "Access Control for Access Control".
