Adhesive Bonding Operation-level Options

The Adhesive Bonding operation provides the following setup options:

• Adhesive Resin Type

• Resin Material Price

• Bonded Area

The Clamping operation provides the following setup options:

• Time to Clamp and Unclamp

• Type of Clamp Utilized

Adhesive Resin Type

This specifies the type of adhesive to use on the current ContactRegion. The default is specified by the Default Tool Material Name field in the Adhesive Bonding tool shop or by the setup option Adhesive Type Process.

This type is used to determine adhesive unit cost, by default, which drives Expendable Tooling for Adhesive Bonding. Users can override this unit cost with the setup option Resin Material Price. This setup option is ignored if the user has set the setup option Total Area Being Bonded.

Resin Material Price

This specifies unit price for the adhesive used on the current ContactRegion. By default, this is the unit price for the Ahesive Resin Type in the Tool Materials table of the Adhesive Bonding tool shop or by the setup option Resin Material Price Process.

The value drives Expendable Tooling for Adhesive Bonding. This setup option is ignored if the user has set the setup option Total Area Being Bonded.

Bonded Area

By default, the cost model assumes that adhesive is applied to 100% of the ContactRegion's surface area. Administrators can customize the default percentage with the cost model variable defaultPercentBonded. Users can override the default for the current ContactRegion with this setup option.

This value drives Expendable Tooling for Adhesive Bonding. This setup option is ignored if the user has set the setup option Total Area Being Bonded.

Time to Clamp and Unclamp

This specifies the time required to apply and later remove a single clamp for the current ContactRegion. By default, it is looked up by Type of Clamp Utilized (see below) in the lookup table clamps.

Users can override the default time on a per-ContactRegion basis with this setup option.

Select one of the following options:

• Default: This is the default.

• User Override: enter a numeric value.

Type of Clamp Utilized

By default in starting point Digital Factories, automated clamping is used with robotic adhesive bonding (as specified by a machine property) and manual clamping is used with manual adhesive bonding. With automated clamping, clamps are applied by hydraulic actuators.
