Profile CNC Bend Options

The process Profile CNC Bend provides the following options:

The operation Profile 3 Roll Bending provides the following options:

The operation Rotary Draw Bending provides the following option:

Feed Speed

By default, feed speed is calculated based on machine and material properties (see Cycle Time for Profile CNC Bend). You can override the default with this process-level setup option. Enter a value less than or equal to the machine property Feed Speed.

Feed speed drives cycle time--see Cycle Time for Profile CNC Bend.

Rotational Speed

Rotation speed is the speed at which the machine rotates the stock into the orientation required for a given bend. By default, this speed is specified by the machine property Rotational Speed. With this setup option, you can override the default on a per-part basis.

Rotation speed drives cycle time; see Cycle Time for Profile CNC Bend.

Part Handling Time

By default, part handling time is twice the Load Time specified for the part weight in the lookup table tblMaterialHandling. With this process-level setup option, you can override the default and specify the handling time.

Handling time drives cycle time; see Cycle Time for Profile CNC Bend.

Number of Rotary Draw Die Stacks

By default, the required number of rotary draw bend die stacks is the number of equivalence groups of rotary draw bends on the part (see Note below on which bends are counted as rotary draw bends). A bend equivalence group is a group of bends that all have the same Min Bend Radius as well as equivalent values for Clock Angle. (Clock angle reflects the position into which the stock must be rotated when the bend is created.) Whether two clock angles are equivalent depends on the stock’s degree of rotational symmetry:

  • For round stock, any two clock angles are equivalent. Therefore, for round stock, the required number of rotary draw bend die stacks is the number of distinct diameters of rotary draw bends in the part

  • For square stock, two clock angles are equivalent if and only if they differ by an integer multiple of 90 degrees.

  • For rectangular stock, two clock angles are equivalent if and only if they differ by 180 degrees.

  • For hex stock, two clock angles are equivalent if and only if they differ by an integer multiple of 60 degrees.

  • For extruded stock, aPriori does not currently have information about the degree of rotational symmetry, so no two different clock angles are considered equivalent. Therefore, for extruded stock, the required number of rotary draw bend die stacks is the number of distinct bend-diameter/clock-angle pairs for rotary draw bends in the part.

Users can override the default required number of rotary draw bend dies with the setup option Number of Rotary Draw Die Stacks. The number of die stacks affects both tooling cost (see Tooling Cost for Profile CNC Bend) and machine selection (see Machine Selection).

Note: For the purpose of determining tooling cost, a rotary draw bend is one assigned to the Rotary Draw Bending operation. For the purpose of machine selection, a rotary draw bend is one that is feasible for Rotary Draw Bending and infeasible for Profile 3 Roll Bending (because it’s bend diameter is too big for Profile 3 Roll Bending); see Operation-level Feasibility and Routing.

Number of Passes

By default, the number of passes required to generate a given bend with Profile 3 Roll Bending is calculated based on bend radius as well as material and machine properties (see Cycle Time for Profile CNC Bend). With this operation-level setup option, you can override the default and specify the number of passes explicitly.

Number of passes drives cycle time; see Cycle Time for Profile CNC Bend.

Prebend Time

By default, the per-bend prebend time depends on machine properties, as well as the distance between bends and the differences in clock angle between bends; see Cycle Time for Profile CNC Bend. With this operation-level setup option, you can override the default and specify the prebend time for a specific bend.

Prebend time drives cycle time; see Cycle Time for Profile CNC Bend.
