Wax Pattern Molding Options
Wax Pattern Molding provides the following setup options:
Is a Wax Chill Required
Drives cycle time.
By default, chill time is included in cycle time for Wax Pattern Molding if and only if both the following hold:
-
Number of pattern subassembly components is 1. By default, the number of subassembly components is the value of the cost model variable defaultNumWaxPatternSubComponents (1 in starting point Digital Factories). Users can override the default with the setup option Total Number of Sub-Components per Wax Pattern.
-
Part Max Thickness is less than the value of the cost model variable waxPatternChillMaxThicknessThreshold (8mm in starting point Digital Factories).
Otherwise, chill time is 0 by default.
By checking the setup option Is a Wax Chill Required, users can override the default and include non-zero chill time regardless of part thickness. As with the default setting, chill time is included only if the number of pattern subassembly components is 1.
By un-checking the setup option Is a Wax Chill Required, users can override the default and exclude chill time regardless of part thickness and number of pattern subassembly components.
Chill time, if included, is specified by the cost model variable defaultWaxPatternLoadChillTime (10 seconds in starting point Digital Factories).
Wax Pattern Material Name
Drives tooling cost.
By default, the properties of the wax pattern material are specified in the Default row of the lookup table tblWaxProperties.
The Default row is the row with Default in the Name column. This is the only row in the lookup table in Starting point Digital Factories. If your administrator adds rows to the lookup table, you can override the default and specify a different wax pattern material.
Plating of Mold
Drives tool life and tooling cost.
By default, molds are assumed to be un-plated. Users can override the default with the setup option Plating of Mold. Possible coatings are specified in the lookup table tblToolCoating.
Tooling Tolerance
Drives tooling cost.
By default, the tolerance required for the tool is specified by the cost model variable defaultWaxPatternToolingTolerance (Low Tolerance: +/-0.010" (0.254mm) in starting point Digital Factories). Users can override the default with the setup option Tooling Tolerance. Following are the options:
-
Low Tolerance: +/-0.010" (0.254mm)
-
Medium Tolerance: +/- 0.005" (0.127mm)
-
High Tolerance: +/- 0.002" (0.0508mm)
See Hard Tooling for Wax Pattern Molding.
Pattern Wax Type
Drives Additional Direct Costs for the Tree Assembly operation of the Bench Operation process.
By default in starting point Digital Factories, the pattern wax is assumed to be virgin material. Administrators can customize the default with the cost model variable defaultPatternWaxType. Users can override the default on a per-part basis with the setup option Pattern Wax Type. Following are the possible value for both the cost model variable and the setup option:
-
Virgin Wax
-
Reconstituted Wax
-
Reclaimed Wax
The unit cost for each wax type is specified by the following Bench Operation tool shop variables:
-
treeWaxUnitCost
-
reconstitutedWaxUnitCost
-
reclaimedWaxUnitCost
Runner Wax Type
Drives Additional Direct Costs for the Tree Assembly operation of the Bench Operation process.
By default in starting point Digital Factories, the gating and runner system wax is assumed to be virgin material.
