Examine Threading Results
How aPriori Analyzes Threading Specifications
To help you to identify and review threading specifications in terms of cost and manufacturability, aPriori:
-
Extracts threading specifications from supported CAD models.
-
Identifies each Geometric Cost Driver (GCD) in a component that might require threading but that does not include a threading specification in your CAD model. You can evaluate each threadable GCD and add threading specifications, as applicable, to your design.
-
Determines the cost associated with the cycle time for each threaded GCD based on the hole diameter and the thread length.
aP Design can analyze threading specifications that are:
-
Included as a property, a set of properties, or as a separate feature in a CAD model that is imported to aP Design.
-
Included in a scenario that is published from aP Pro.
Notes
-
To calculate cycle time for threaded GCDs, aP Design uses only the hole diameter and thread length. Additional properties, such as thread pitch, are not considered.
-
aP Design imports threading production and manufacturing information (PMI) only for part models. Threading PMI for assembly models can only be added manually in aP Pro.
-
Threading analysis is supported only for processes that are supported for Design Guidance.
Note: Threaded feature names vary across these supported CAD systems: CATIA (Dassault Systemes), CREO (PTC), NX (Siemens), SolidWorks (Dassault Systemes), and Inventor (Autodesk).
See Threading Results
Open the Threads tab to review the results for threaded Geometric Cost Drivers (GCDs) and to see GCDs that may require threading:
The left pane of the Threads tab contains a table that categorizes the Threadable GCDs by type and indicates the Count, or number, of GCDs for each category.
When you select a category of Threadable GCDs in the left pane of the tab, the applicable GCDs appear on the tab and are highlighted in the Viewer.
The table includes:
-
GCD: the name of the GCD.
-
Threaded: whether there is a threading requirement for the threaded GCD.
-
Source: Threading requirement source, that is whether the threading was specified in the CAD file for the scenario or in aP Pro.
-
Length: the thread length.
For this example scenario, there are 10 threadable Simple Holes. For two of the threadable holes, the threading requirements were extracted from the CAD file that was uploaded to create the scenario in aP Design.
As a best practice, determine if any of the threadable GCDs require threading. If they do, add the requirements, either in the CAD file or aP Pro.
