Supported CAD Applications and Formats

Supported CAD Applications

aPriori certifies the CAD applications and versions in the following table, subject to the limitations described (see also the Notes section below the table).

aPriori offers plug-ins for all supported versions of the native CAD systems Creo, CATIA, Inventor, NX, SolidWorks, and SolidEdge, unless otherwise noted in the Notes column.

RS-274X (Extended)

Gerber files must be compressed to a zip file.

Gerber files are supported only if they are exported from one of these PCB design applications:

  • Siemens PADS

  • Cadence Allegro

  • Altium Designer

  • CADSTAR

  • Eagle

  • PentaLogix

  • P-CAD

Only these PCB.NC drill formats are supported:

  • Exellon

  • Indefinite NC

Notes
  • aPriori tests and certifies only the most recent three versions of each CAD application. Although aPriori applications can read CAD files that are saved in older, unsupported versions of supported CAD applications, aPriori does not regularly test unsupported versions and reserves the right to not address issues that are apparent only in unsupported CAD versions.
  • aPriori does not provide official support for CAD EOL (end-of-life) versions.
  • aPriori also can be used in environments where the MCAD application is integrated with a PLM system.
  • aPriori does not support:

    • Tolerances that are specified at the assembly level

    • Properties that are specified at the feature level

    • SOLIDWORKS™properties that are defined in configurations

For licensing options for supported CAD applications contact your aPriori account representative.

For support for currently unsupported CAD applications, formats, and versions, contact aPriori Customer Support.

Supported PMI Types

Generally, aPriori supports the importation of these types of semantic PMI (production and manufacturing information) from supported CAD applications:

  • Diameter tolerances

  • Geometric tolerances

  • Surface Roughness (Ra and Rz)

  • Virtual Threads

Although aPriori does not store or use non-semantic PMI for analysis, for diagnostic purposes, aPriori does log non-semantic diameter tolerance or surface roughness PMI that it reads from CAD models.

Supported CAD File Upload Size

aP Design supports market-informed file types and size limitations and has an out-of-the-box file size limitation of 50MB. Optionally this can be extended to 100MB; contact aP Customer Support.

Larger files can be opened with aP Pro in AppStream.

Note: Note that large CAD files will take longer to cost and might hit memory limitations.
