New Regions across Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and India

This release provides a region in Saudi Arabia, three new regions in Mexico, four new regions in India

To support the Middle East, North Africa, and newly popular international manufacturing hubs, the 2023-02 Regional Data Libraries provides data for Saudi Arabia, three new regions in Mexico, and four new regions in India.

Note: The eight new regions are currently available for aPriori Professional 2023 R1 but will not be available for aPriori Professional 2022 R1 SP1 until the next Regional Data Libraries release (anticipated for April 2023).

Saudi Arabia

Previously, the Regional Data Libraries provided limited coverage for the Middle East and North Africa To help customers that manufacture in these regions, aPriori has added a region in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has a fast-growing manufacturing sector and is set to become a hub in the near future. Unlike many regions around the world, Saudi Ariba had very strong GDP growth in 2022 increasing by 8.7%.

Mexico

To avoid the rising production prices in Asia, manufacturers had started moving production to Mexico before the COVID-19 pandemic. Once the pandemic started, the resulting supply chain issues forced US companies to look for alternative sourcing opportunities. Mexico was an obvious choice due to its supply chain predictability, location, and multiple free trade agreements. Mexico has the largest number of free trade agreements in the world involving 50 countries. To provide increased granularity within the country and in response to customer requests, aPriori has added these new regions in Mexico:

  • Mexico – Mexico City

  • Mexico – North

  • Mexico – South-West

India

To escape supply chain disruption caused by China’s zero-Covid policies, many companies have decided to start manufacturing in India. With a large economy, young population, and continued interest from foreign investors, India could rival China in the future for the global manufacturing throne. To support new, regional manufacturing hubs within India, aPriori has added these four new regions:

  • India – Maharashtra

  • India – Delhi

  • India – West-Bengal

  • India – Karnataka

Regional Factors for the aPriori Sustainability Module

The 2023-02 release provides regional carbon and energy factors that aPriori uses to calculate to calculate CO2e data for manufacturing materials and processes.

aPriori now offers a Sustainability module that helps customers understand and take the most cost-effective action to reduce the carbon footprint of their products. aPriori has partnered with Ecoinvent, the data leader in Life Cycle Assessment data, to provide data for material carbon emissions, manufacturing process carbon emissions, and carbon emissions associated with electricity usage.

Industry Standard Values for Material Injection Pressure Boundary Values

The minimum and maximum injection pressure values for several Plastic Molding materials were updated to correspond to standard values used in industry-leading material flow analysis tools.

The Injection Pressure Min and Injection Pressure Max values were updated in the aPriori2023-02 Regional Data Libraries for several Plastic Molding materials.

This table below shows molding material families and indicates those for which the minimum or maximum injection pressure value was updated. Arrows indicate whether the new value is higher (▲) or lower (▼) than the value in the previous release. A dash (–) indicates that the value is unchanged and therefore is not shown.

New Machines for the Casting-Investment, Sheet Metal and Sheet Plastic Process Groups

The Regional Data Libraries contains 84 new machines across three process groups.

The 2023-02 Regional Data Libraries includes new machines for the Casting-Investment, Sheet Metal and Sheet Plastic process groups:

  • 4 Shell Making Robotic Assist machines (Casting-Investment)
  • 1 large press machine for Progressive Die, Tandem Die, Stage Tooling and Standard Press routings (Sheet Metal)
  • 79 Thermoforming Machines, including, single, shuttle, 3-station, and 4-station machines (Sheet Plastic)

New Materials for the Plastic Molding and Sheet Plastic Process Groups

The Regional Data Libraries contains 20 new materials across two process groups.

The 2023-02 Regional Data Libraries includes new materials for the Compression Molding in Plastic Molding process group and Thermoforming in the Sheet Plastic process group:

  • 16 new unsaturated polyester bulk molding compound (BMC) materials (Compression Molding)
  • 4 new sheet plastic materials: Flame resistant and PC ABS, Polypropylene Random Copol, and Acrylic PVC/ PMMA PVC (Thermoforming)
