Updated Labor Time and Cost Estimates for Fluorescent Penetrant Testing Process
Dwell time exclusion yields more accurate labor time estimates.
Labor Time estimates are reduced as they no longer include the Dwell Time, that is, the time parts are sitting waiting for the Penetrant or Developing dyes to take full effect.
Fluorescent Penetrant Testing requires the application of a Penetrant dye which must be allowed time to seep into any defects, followed by application of a Developer solution which also requires time to give full visibility of any defects. This ‘Dwell Time’ does not require any input or action from the operator and the part can be left unattended until the next stage of the process. By default, elapsed dwell times for the penetrant dye and developer solutions are each 10 minutes, for a total of 20 minutes.
Labor Time and Cost estimates previously included the Dwell Time but no longer do. Because the default Number of Operators is 0.5, Labor time estimates will decrease by 10 minutes, with a corresponding reduction in labor cost, depending on the labor rate of the Digital Factory being used.
