Plastic Molding Enhancements

Sustainability Insights for Compression Molding

aPriori 2023 R1 SP2 provides Sustainability Insights for Compression Molded parts.

aPriori now estimates carbon emissions (CO2e) for parts manufactured by the Compression Molding routing (in the Plastic Molding process group). The carbon estimates include both carbon associated with the Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) or Bullk Molding Compound (BMC) material used to make the part, and the manufacturing processes themselves. These calculations leverage data licensed from Ecoinvent, a leading provider of life cycle inventory datasets.

Carbon estimates are now provided for these manufacturing processes in the Compression Molding routing:

  • Compression Molding

  • Waterjet Cut

Known Limitation: Carbon Emissions are not calculated for the Router process available in this routing.

Note: Your company must have a license for the Sustainability module to access this functionality. Additionally, you must upgrade your Plastic Molding manufacturing process model to version CMV 240 or higher.
