Surface Treatment Enhancements

In aP Pro 2024 R1 SP2, the following enhancements were made to the Surface Treatment process group:

Sustainability Insights for 19 Additional Surface Treatment Processes

aPriori 2024 R1 SP2 extends sustainability insights for the Surface Treatment process group. Nineteen additional Surface Treatment processes now provide carbon estimates, bringing the total coverage to 27 Processes.

aPriori 2024 R1 SP2 now estimates carbon emissions (CO2e) for the following Surface Treatment processes:

Tool Shop Materials Updates for Shot Peen and Black Oxide

The 2024-09 Regional Data Libraries have updated the Tool Shop materials available in the Shot Peen and Black Oxide processes.

Materials incompatible with the Shot Peen process were removed. The following materials are no longer supported:

  • Aluminum Oxide

  • Aluminum Silicate

  • Calcium Silicate

  • Glass Grit

  • Iron Silicate

The following modifications were made for the process Black Oxide:

  • Ultra-Blak Rectifier has been removed as this is not a black oxide solution.

  • Birchwood Presto Blak has been renamed to Birchwood Presto Black.

If a user has previously overridden the default Tool Shop material in a process setup option by selecting a material that has been renamed or removed, subsequent costing attempts will fail. To resolve this, users must revert to the default material or select an alternative material.

Machine Power Updates for Surface Treatment Processes

The 2024-09 Regional Data Libraries provide updated values for machine rated powers for multiple surface treatment processes. In addition, other machine data was updated for selected Conveyer Shot Blast machines.

Machine rated powers were updated following a review of machines in the Surface Treatment Process Group. This review was conducted to support the carbon estimates for the 19 additional surface treatment processes in this release (See Sustainability Insights for 19 Additional Surface Treatment Processes). Additionally, further updates have been made to other Conveyor Shot Blast machine parameters:

  • Machine length, width, and opening width have been updated for Binhai Arbator Q383, Binhai Arbator Q384, Binhai Arbator Q483, and Binhai Q485.

  • Maximum nesting has been updated for Binhai Q383, Binhai Q384, and Binhai Q485.

  • Shot blasting rate has been updated for Binhai Q483 and Binhai Q485.

A direct overhead impact assessment has been performed on Surface Treatment processes with updated machine data. Overall, direct overhead costs decreased by an average of 20% for these processes. The Oven Cure and Conveyor Oven Cure processes experienced the most significant decrease in overhead, at 61%.
