Casting Enhancements

Improved Secondary Machining Determination

aPriori 2026 R1 better determines when cast parts require secondary machining. To obtain these improvements it is necessary to upgrade to the latest manufacturing process model versions (Casting-Die CMV 230, Casting-Investment CMV 130, Casting-Sand CMV 220 and Machining CMV 380).

Previously, aPriori assigned machining operations to create holes with countersinks or rounded edges even when casting alone would be sufficient. The manufacturing analysis is also slightly more performant as it eliminates evaluation of optional machining operations when they are not required.

Due to these changes, manufacturing estimates will change slightly compared to previous manufacturing process model versions. In a large set of test parts:

  • For parts that previously used non-required machining operations, cycle time decreased by 4.5% on average.

  • When holes were no longer fully machined, material utilization increased by up to 4.5%.

  • Costing analysis times decreased by 2% on average.
