Kerf Width for OxyFuel and Waterjet Cutting

For OxyFuel cutting, default kerf width is generally the product of blank thickness and the value of the cost model variable oxyfuelKerfMultiplier (1 in starting point Digital Factories). Default kerf width is bounded above by the value of the cost model variable kerfWidthMaxOxyFuel (44.45mm in starting point Digital Factories).

For Waterjet cutting, default kerf width is specified by the value of the cost model variable waterjetKerf (0.625mm in starting point Digital Factories).

Kerf width can affect the minimum feasible hole diameter; see Minimum Hole Diameter for OxyFuel and Waterjet Cutting – as well the part spacing assumed for the calculation of utilization.

The following processes each provide a process-level setup option for overriding default kerf width:

  • OxyFuel Cut: provides the setup option Oxyfuel Cutting Kerf Width.

  • Waterjet Cut: provides the setup option Waterjet Cutting Kerf Width.
