Review Design Guidance
Design Guidance shows design issues and requirements that can decrease manufacturability and increase cost for a part component:
The Design Guidanceshows:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
|
DFM Risk |
(Only applies to process groups that support Design to Cost (DTC) analysis) |
|
Design Failures |
For this component, the number of features (Geometric Cost Drivers (GCDs)), that are not manufacturable if the part is made with the selected material, Process Group, and Digital Factory. If there are any design failures, the analysis cannot be completed and the DFM Risk is Critical. |
|
Design Warnings |
Number of GCDs that are manufacturable, but that cause manufacturing issues, result in excessive cycle times, or require special finishing processes. |
|
GCDs with Threads |
Number of GCDs that include threading requirements |
|
GCDs with Tolerances |
Number of GCDs that include tolerance requirements. |

The Design Guidance Explorer shows:
-
Issues: Issues and mitigation strategies for GCDs that generated a Design Warning or Design Failure, because they are difficult or impossible to manufacture, result in excessive cycle times, or require special finishing processes. Select Group By Severity to organize issues by severity or Group By Issue to organize by issue type. See Examine Design Issues.
-
Investigation: Topics that address best design practices for GCDs that might not be optimized for Design to Cost (DTC) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM). See Examine DTC and DFM Topics.
-
Tolerances: GCDs that have tolerance requirements. See Examine Tolerances.
-
Threads: GCDs that have or might require threading requirements. See Examine Threading Results.
