Examine Material Stock details

The Stock tab, which is available only for certain process groups, displays the enveloping dimensions of the part, and the dimensions and the type of the stock used to produce the part.

Click the Edit button to determine which of these Select Stock modes is selected for the scenario:

• Auto: an algorithm selected the material stock based on geometry constraints, material utilization, machine selection, and routing.
• Manual: the stock was selected from a list
• Custom Cut: the stock was user defined

If Auto is selected, aP Design attempts to evaluate a part and calculate the best standard material stock to use for the process. If a reasonable stock does not exist, aP Design calculates a virtual stock: a theoretical stock that can be used to manufacture the part.

Compared to using an off-the-shelf stock material, virtual stock can increase the estimated cost of manufacturing a part. If a virtual stock is specified, you might be able reduce costs by redesigning the part so that it can be made using an existing off-the-shelf stock material.
