Process Group or Functional Area |
Changes |
---|---|
System Administration |
Access Control: Customers using aPriori’s cloud solutions can no longer make changes within selected screens or panes in the aPriori System Admin toolset that are used to define an Access Control model. This enforces an existing practice in which aPriori employees are required to set up, update, and deploy access control for cloud customers. Customers using aP Pro on-premise can continue to make changes to access control definitions within these screens. In particular, cloud customers cannot add or edit access control permissions and cannot add or edit groups. Cloud customers can still add members to an existing group |
Usability |
Edge GCD Highlighting: aPriori now uses thicker highlighting to display edge GCDs that are selected either directly (by clicking on the edge in the Viewer window or the GCD pane) or indirectly (for example, by selecting Highlight Associated GCDs in the Manufacturing Process pane for an operation assigned to one or more edges. Note that Edge GCD highlighting is not thicker when a parent GCD (such as a SimpleHole or Cutout) is selected. Failed GCD Messages: This release displays an improved failure message when no operation sequences are considered feasible for a GCD. Previously, the content of the failure message was based on the failure of only the first operation sequence evaluated. Now, for a failed GCD, aPriori displays the message, "All evaluated operation sequences failed for {gcdName}", if multiple sequences were evaluated. Automatic Recosting: Previously, when a user used the Open CAD File dialogue to access a scenario that already existed in aPriori, the software would always automatically cost the scenario to update the results. Now, aPriori respects the user preference for One Click Costing and only automatically costs the scenario if the user preference is set to automatically cost in response to CAD changes. |
Flow Appraisal Visualization: The latest Plastic Molding process model (CMV290) improves the visibility of short shot conditions by displaying the Flow Appraisal GCD on the CAD model in the Viewer when you review a Short Shot Condition – Flow Ratio design issue. Hole Proximity Issues: The latest manufacturing process models enhance the identification of hole proximity issues in the Plastic Molding and casting process groups. This results in a significant reduction in false positive hole proximity issues. Blind Hole L/D Ratios: The latest Plastic Molding process model (CMV290) streamlines the feedback provided to design engineers when blind holes exceed recommend length-to-diameter ratios in Plastic Molding. |
|
Bar & Tube Fabrication |
Highly Deformed Parts: aPriori continues to make incremental improvements to better recognize the intended stock form and correctly identify all modeled features. This release improves stock selection as well as bend and form recognition for parts that have large amounts of deformation. |
Casting - Die |

This process is appropriate for smaller parts and higher production volumes. Full Sustainability Support: The latest Forging process model (CMV270) provides carbon estimates for all processes. Mechanical Press Enhancements: In the latest Forging process model (CMV270), the Mechanical Press process is auto evaluated and includes a mechanistic tooling model as well as enhanced machine selection logic. Hammer Process No Longer Auto Evaluated: The Hammer process must be manually selected in the latest Forging process model (CMV270). Regionalized Tooling Estimates: Previously, tooling investment for some Forging processes was not sensitive to the Tool Shop Digital Factory's region. The latest Forging process model (CMV270) fixes the issue. |
Machining |
Improved Part Setups on 4-Axis Mill: The latest Machining process model (CMV350) was updated to ensure that parts made on 4-Axis Mill machines always have two setups and to ensure that GCDs are assigned to the primary rotational setup when feasible. |
Plastic Molding |
Hole Proximity Issues: The latest process model (CMV290) enhances the identification of hole proximity issues. Flow Appraisal Visualization: In aP Pro, the latest process model (CMV290) improves the visibility of short shot conditions by displaying a visualization of the Flow Appraisal GCD on the CAD model in the Viewer when you review a Short Shot Condition – Flow Ratio design issue. March 2025: Release 2025 R1
This table provides a brief, high-level view of what has changed. For more detailed information, see What's New Details and Regional Database Libraries Release Notes.
Process Group or Functional Area |
Changes |
---|---|
Digital Factory Administration |
Site variables now can be set independently for each manufacturing process model version (CMV), enabling simultaneous use of Digital Factories that require different geometry extraction. When you upgrade to a new release, the upgrade process automatically sets site variable values correctly for each manufacturing process model version present in the customer deployment. This removes the need for manually setting the values, streamlining and error-proofing this portion of the upgrade process. The aPriori Process Group Site Variables tool was enhanced to enable setting site variables to different values for different manufacturing process model versions (CMVs). The tool also now allows users to visually identify values that are set differently from the default values, and to enter comments when changing a value. When you upgrade to aPriori 2025 R1 (or a subsequent release), aPriori produces a log of any key site variables that are set incorrectly, so these can be reviewed and corrected. In addition, a comment indicating that the value is set incorrectly is added and made visible in the Process Group Site Variables Configuration tool. |
System Administration |
You can now specify whether imported UDAs supplement the existing UDAs in your deployment or replace them. Previously they always replaced them. |
Design guidance for Sheet Metal now flags unique hole diameter issues only for processes that require additional tooling for additional hole diameters. Design guidance for Sheet Metal now flags unique bend radii issues only for processes that require additional tooling for additional bend radii. Design guidance for the casting process groups now flags a draft angle issue for a feature only if it does not require rough machining. Any draft is assumed to be removed from features requiring rough machining, and so no draft is expected to be reflected in the CAD model (which represents the part's final state). Design guidance for Machining no longer includes the issue type High Milling L/D Ratio, since the information provided by this type of guidance is largely duplicated by Long Tool Reach guidance. In addition, the issue type Side Milling L/D is now called Side Milling L/D Ratio Exceeded. Design guidance for Plastic Molding flags a mold cavity finish issue only when a less expensive cavity finish is available that can achieve a finish quality that meets or exceeds the default finish standard . Design guidance for Plastic Molding flags a mold cavity texture issue only when the texture is not the default texture and there are cheaper cavity texture options within the same texture standard. In this case, design guidance now provides a list of the cheaper options. |
|
Bar & Tube Fabrication |
This release continues a series of improvements to the Bar & Tube Fabrication process group to better recognize the intended stock form from which a part is made and to correctly identify all features modeled on the part. |
Casting process groups |
See Design Guidance, above. |
Forging |
The Forging process group now provides a Vertical Mechanical Press routing in addition to the Hammer process routing that was available in previous releases. This release extends the stock selection logic introduced in the previous release to include virtual stock selection. Now aPriori determines a list of valid virtual stocks and evaluates the ones with the lowest estimated material cost. By default, aPriori evaluates up to three virtual stocks. This release adds three setup options that allow you to specify mult dimensions and virtual stock dimensions. |
Machining |
The machining tool usage report now includes tool usage for Stock Trim GCD operations. The view of Surface Finishing Tool Diameter in the Geometry Analysis (Heat Map) tool now displays the minimum tool diameter when multiple tools are used to machine a surface. This release improves the batch setup time calculation for Bar Feed Lathe processes, so that these setup time estimates are now greater than the batch setup times for conventional lathes. See also Design Guidance, above. |
Plastic Molding |
This release provides the ability to independently select a material for cavity and core inserts, decoupling selection from the main plate material. Plastic Molding now accounts for the weight and cost of mold support plates in the tooling model, providing more accurate and complete tooling estimates. This release updates the Tooling spreadsheet report to ensure all tooling costs are reported consistently with the Investment tab of the aP Pro UI. This release updates the Plastic Molding model to be sensitive to the Water Line Diameter process setup option. See also Design Guidance, above. |
Sheet Metal |
See Design Guidance, above. |
Regional Data Libraries |
The 2025-03 Regional Data Libraries (RDLs) contain updates to labor rates, overhead rates, material rates, and sustainability data. There also is a change to the default purchase volume (and therefore default cost) of materials in the casting process groups. With this release, the RDL Data Trends Web site has been updated, and it now includes labor rate data trends in addition to the previously released material cost data trends. See the 2025-03 RDL Release Notes for more information. |

Process Group or Functional Area |
Changes |
---|---|
Digital Factory Administration |
You can now link a custom material to a source material by using a spreadsheet. Previously, you could link materials only through the Digital Factory Manager user interface. You can now edit material factors by using a spreadsheet. This new capability allows you to change multiple adjustment factors and purchase volumes at the material type, process group, and/or material level in a single import. Previously, you were required to enter each value separately in the Digital Factory Manager’s Material Factors table. |
Bar & Tube Fabrication |
This release improves recognition of standard stock forms, even when the CAD model includes some dimensional inconsistencies or deviates somewhat from the canonical stock form. |
Forging |
This release provides more accurate calculations of the volume of material required to manufacture a forged part, the dimensions of the mult and stock, and the resulting estimates of material utilization and cost. This release updates and enhances the stock selection logic for Forging, helping to ensure aPriori selects a reasonable stock. |
Machining |
This release enhances milling estimates by improving setup axis determination and the predictive routing evaluation logic. These enhancements enable aPriori to more frequently identify and select the most appropriate routing for milled parts. |
PCB Fabrication |
This release extends geometry extraction for the PCB Fabrication process group to capture the array nesting layout from Gerber and ODB++ files, allowing the user to view the proposed nesting from the ECAD design. |
Plastic Molding |
This release improves the visualization of part thickness in the Viewer, so that thickness spheres no longer protrude through the part surface excessively. |
Resolved Issues |
For CAD-disconnected scenarios, this release disables the ability to override GCD properties that require the scenario to be CAD connected. aPriori now extracts a turning axis and AxiGroove GCD for certain types of gear parts, even when the teeth are modeled somewhat incorrectly. |
Regional Data Libraries |
The 2024-12 Regional Data Libraries (RDLs) contain updates to currency exchange rates, labor rates, overhead rates, and material rates. The RDLs also include three new regions within Brazil. See Regional Data Libraries Release Notes Version 2024-12 for more information. |

September 2024: Release 2024 R1 SP2
This table provides a brief, high-level view of what has changed. For more detailed information, see What's New Details and Regional Database Libraries Release Notes.
Process Group or Functional Area |
Changes |
---|---|
Sustainability |
aPriori 2024 R1 SP2 extends sustainability insights for the Surface Treatment process group. Nineteen additional Surface Treatment processes now provide carbon emission estimates, bringing the total coverage to 27 Processes. The 2024-09 Regional Data Libraries provide updated values for machine rated power values for multiple surface treatment processes. In addition, other machine data was updated for selected Conveyer Shot Blast machines. In 2024 R1 SP2, carbon estimate overrides affect key fields that indicate which processes or subcomponents provide carbon estimates. |
Performance and Usability |
The underlying processes involved in opening a scenario in aP Pro have been optimized to improve performance without causing any regressions in the application functionality. aP Pro now stores the CAD model interpretation with the scenario, which means that when a user opens a multi-body scenario created by another user, aPriori interprets the CAD model just as it did when the scenario was first saved. In 2024 R1 SP2, the Multi-Body Options setting Keep Free Bodies was extended to apply to STEP assemblies containing solid bodies, ensuring assembly subcomponents can be interpreted correctly and consistently for both STEP files and native CAD files. This release resolves an issue that sometimes caused aPriori to incorrectly display zero for fields of manually costed parts. In CAD models, it is common practice to use ISO (tabulated) diametrical tolerances for holes and shafts, for example, a diameter tolerance of “Ø3.5 G6” on a hole represents Ø3.5 +0.004 to Ø3.5 +0.012. aPriori now extracts these tolerances and displays the tolerance range as it would with numeric tolerances. aPriori 2024 R1 SP2 provides various improvements to the extraction and display of specific tolerance types. |
Digital Factory Administration |
aPriori 2024 R1 SP2 adds five new material purchase volumes ranging from 30t up to 10,000t. aP Pro 2024 R1 SP2 fixes various issues in which data entered for customer-added materials either was not saved upon publishing of the Materials Digital Factory or was not properly inherited and available in Overlay Digital Factories. As a result, aPriori now enforces stricter rules about how these custom materials are named. |
2-Model Machining |
In aPriori 2024 R1 SP2, further improvements were made in the 2-Model Machining process group to automatically align the “source” and “finished” CAD models. |
Assembly |
The 2024-09 Regional Data Libraries provide updated machine rated power values for various mechanical assembly, bonding, and welding processes. In 2024 R1 SP2, the Multi-Body Options setting Keep Free Bodies was extended to apply to STEP assemblies containing solid bodies, ensuring assembly subcomponents can be interpreted correctly and consistently for both STEP files and native CAD files. |
Bar & Tube Fabrication |
In 2024 R1 SP2, aPriori improves standard stock recognition, even when there are small dimensional errors in the CAD models. |
Casting - Investment |
aPriori 2024 R1 SP2 updates how cycle time is calculated for many processes in the Investment Casting routing, making it more sensitive to part size and significantly lowering estimates of cycle time and fully-burdened cost, especially for small parts. |
Machining |
aPriori 2024 R1 SP2 provides more accurate and credible estimates of the part setup time required to machine a part, by considering both the size and weight of the part and more completely accounting for the various setup activities performed when machining a part. In 2024 R1 SP2, improvements were made in machining setups and tool approaches for milling processes. aPriori 2024 R1 SP2 provides the ability for a Digital Factory Administrator to set a default value for gear pressure angle via a new site variable. |
Other Secondary Processes |
aPriori 2024 R1 SP2 updates the cycle time calculation for Fluorescent Penetrant Testing, leading to general reductions in cycle time for this process. |
PCB Fabrication |
The PCB process group now has an XSLT mapping for Gerber Files exported from P-CAD, extending the number of ECAD systems aPriori supports for Gerber files. The PCB process group now includes several targeted enhancements to improve the robustness of Gerber file extraction. This release resolves an issue with export/import functionality for XSLT mapping files. |
Stock Machining |
In aPriori 2024 R1 SP2, improvements were made to the Parallel Surface Chain recognition released in 2024 R1, which in turn drive improved finish milling operation assignments. |
Surface Treatment |

Process Group or Functional Area |
Changes |
---|---|
Sustainability |
aPriori 2024 R1 provides carbon emissions estimates for all standard machining operations. These estimates account for the carbon emissions due to the energy required for the machine’s spindle to remove material from the workpiece. This release extends the BOM Loader module to support loading of sustainability data. In this release, customers who are licensed for aPriori’s Sustainability module now will be alerted if material property data required to calculate the part’s Material Carbon is not populated. This release resolves a previous issue in which energy consumption estimates were not computed for customer Digital Factories that used custom overhead rates. |
Usability |
aP Pro via AppStream: Users can now recover scenarios that were unsaved when their AppStream session shut down due to user inactivity. The aP Pro user interface now provides an indication to alert users to the availability of controls to easily expand and collapse table rows and columns. |
Digital Factory Manager Enhancements |
aPriori now provides a script enabling Digital Factory administrators to efficiently delete inactive Digital Factories that are no longer needed. |
2-Model Machining |
The source model scenario no longer is required to be opened when the machined model scenario is opened, reducing the time required to open the machined scenario by roughly half. |
Casting |
In aPriori Pro 2024 R1 the extraction of Void and ComboVoid GCDs has been significantly improved and standardized to give more accurate void detection and better visualization of the GCD in the 3D Viewer. These changes affect a number of process groups: Casting – Sand, Casting – Investment, Casting – Die, Forging, and Powder Metal. |
Forging |
In aPriori Pro 2024 R1 the extraction of Void and ComboVoid GCDs has been significantly improved and standardized to give more accurate void detection and better visualization of the GCD in the 3D Viewer. These changes affect a number of process groups: Casting – Sand, Casting – Investment, Casting – Die, Forging, and Powder Metal. |
Machining |
aPriori 2024 R1 now provides carbon emissions estimates for all standard machining operations. These estimates account for the carbon emissions due to the energy required for the machine’s spindle to remove material from the workpiece. |
PCB |
The PCB cycle time calculation was updated for all dip tank processes, resulting in significantly reduced estimates of cycle time and piece part cost. The PCB cost model was enhanced to include the laser drilling process for PCBs with micro vias that are too small to create with a mechanical drill. This addition enables aPriori to cost a wider range of PCBs, including HDI boards where laser drilling is common. The PCB Fabrication process model provides more accurate estimates of mechanical drilling expendable tooling costs, by updating the material pricing and the re-usability of the materials. In aPriori 2024 R1, the PCB Fabrication process group improves interpretation of specific modeling practices in specific ECAD formats (holes/vias defined in Altium and CADSTAR Gerber files, and legend Gerber files from PADs). The PCB fabrication CSL logic was updated to dynamically respond to customers expanding the layer configuration options defined in the Digital Factory lookup tables. |
Powder Metal |
In aPriori Pro 2024 R1 the extraction of Void and ComboVoid GCDs has been significantly improved and standardized to give more accurate void detection and better visualization of the GCD in the 3D Viewer. These changes affect a number of process groups: Casting – Sand, Casting – Investment, Casting – Die, Forging, and Powder Metal. |
Stock Machining |
aPriori now more often assigns side milling operations to all surfaces in a “chain”, or set of adjacent surfaces that a side-milling tool reasonably would be expected to follow in actual manufacturing practice. In addition, aPriori now more accurately recognizes fillet geometry that can be made indirectly by the corner radius of a bull nose end mill. This enhancement increases the credibility of aPriori’s analysis and also modestly improves the accuracy of cycle time estimates. Previously, aPriori was more likely to assign inconsistent finish milling operations across a chain of neighboring surfaces, for example, alternating between side-milling and facing. aPriori now provides customers with the ability to enable automated assignment of additional turning axes that are eccentric to the stock diameter. This allows customers to configure their machining preferences to align their part types and standard manufacturing practices in an automated manner that facilitates automated workflows such as aP Generate, our lightweight design focused product aP Design, as well as increasing efficiency of users working in aP Pro. |
