Cost impact for upgrades to aPriori Professional 2021 R1 SP1

Geometry or Cost Engine Changes that Could Impact Configured Digital Factories

The following changes might impact costing, even for Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions.

  • Stock Selection (impacts Material Cost and Cycle Time): For parts with axial holes, aPriori now selects round bar stock in some cases in which it previously selected round tube stock.

In previous releases, for small-diameter parts, aPriori selected tube stock if the finished part model contained an axial through-hole of any diameter.

In this release, for small-diameter parts, aPriori chooses tube stock if the ratio of stock wall thickness to outer diameter is no greater than the value of the site variable maxThinRoundTubeThicknessToODRatio (0.15 by default). (A part is considered to have a small diameter if its outer diameter is no greater than the value of the site variable maxThinRoundTubeOD--30.4mm by default.)

This change in stock selection can decrease material cost (since round bar is generally less expensive than round tube stock) but increase cycle time (since hole-making must be performed with round bar stock).

You can restore the previous behavior by setting the site variable maxThinRoundTubeThicknessToODRatio to 0.5 or greater.
