Site Variable Changes

2025 R1 makes several important changes related to site variables. These changes do not affect geometry extraction in this release. Among other benefits, the changes ease upgrades for all future releases. Previously users were sometimes required to adjust newly introduced site variable values to ensure compatibility with the cost model versions in use. The site variable changes eliminate this requirement.

To take full advantage of this benefit, aPriori recommends that you review site variable settings for previously introduced compatibility site variables to ensure that they are set properly—see Default Value Compatibility, below.

Following is a summary of the changes:

  • Version-specific Site Variable Values: In previous releases, each site variable for a given process group had a single value, which was used in geometry extraction regardless of the process group's active cost model version. In this release, each site variable for a given process group has one value for each of the process group's active versions. (An active version is one currently used by a Digital Factory in the current aPriori deployment.) So users can now tailor geometry extraction behavior to particular cost model versions.

  • Default Value Compatibility: In previous releases, users of an old cost model version were sometimes required to change the value of a new site variable in order to make geometry extraction compatible with that cost model version (see Incompatibility Example). Starting with this release, users are never required to make such a change; aPriori ensures that site variable default values for a given cost model version are compatible with that version.

    If you review your site variable settings to ensure that all compatibility site variables from previous releases are set properly, your site variable settings will be guaranteed to remain compatible with their associated cost model versions across all future release upgrades (unless you override a relevant default value). Enhancements to the upgrade process and to the site variable tool increased visibility of incompatible site variable settings—see Site Variables and aPriori Release Upgrades.

  • Machining Process Group: In the previous release, each site variable was associated with either a primary process group or the Machining process group. In this release, each site variable that was previously associated with the Machining process group has been moved to each of the primary process groups that it affects. So site variables are now associated with primary process groups only.
