Geometry or Cost Engine Changes that Could Impact Configured Digital Factories

The following changes might impact costing, even for Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions.

  • Recessed ("Breakaway") Voids (impacts operation assignment and cycle times): This release improves determination of size, shape, and manufacturing method for recessed features, including whether they should be grouped with other cavities and recessed features to make a single, larger core tool.

    Note:

To revert to the behavior of the previous release, set the new site variable breakawayVoidAlgorithm to Voxel-Based.

  • Obscured Voids (impacts operation assignment and cycle times): This release better determines whether an obscured void should be merged into a ComboVoid and better determines the feasible operations for obscured voids. The change affects operation assignment and cycle times.

Bug Fixes or Small Improvements to Prior Cost Model Versions

The following changes might impact costing for Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions.

  • NO IMPACT

Cost Model Changes that Do Not Affect Configured Digital Factories

The following changes do not affect costings with Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions. The changes are available only in the latest cost model version.

  • Child Voids (impacts operation assignment and cycle times): This release fixes an issue in which some child Voids of ComboVoids that could in fact be cored instead were assigned a machining operation. This occurred for child Voids that do not have a direct opening to the outside of the part but are connected to an adjacent Void that would allow the sand core to be removed during shakeout. Due to this fix, cost estimates may decrease significantly compared to the previous release. The maximum change seen in a suite of parts was an 11% decrease in fully- burdened cost.
