Sustainability Updates

Electricity Emissions Factors

aPriori leverages electricity carbon emission factors from Ecoinvent, a comprehensive global database for Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data.

Ecoinvent v3.11 updates the energy sector’s electricity market mixes to reflect the situation in 2021. In specific cases (Brazil, China, USA, Canada, and Switzerland) the electricity mixes have been updated to reflect the situation in 2022. India is updated to represent the year of April 2021 to March 2022. In this release, the global statistics are based on data from the Enerdata database. For additional information, the Ecoinvent release notes (including a report of changes) can be found here.

The table below shows the updated electricity carbon factors (v3.11) and the percentage changes compared to the previous release, which used Ecoinvent v3.10:

Material Emissions Factors

aPriori primarily leverages material carbon emission factors from Ecoinvent, a comprehensive global database for Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data.

Ecoinvent v3.11 updates data for the chemicals sector, improving the representation of key chemical precursors by incorporating data from the European Council of Vinyl Manufacturers and the European UP/VE Resins Association. This updates carbon emission factors for many plastic materials in the aPriori RDLs.

Additionally, Ecoinvent v3.11 updates datasets used for aPriori’s metallic materials within the RDLs. For additional information the Ecoinvent release notes (including a Report of Changes) can be found here.

Surface Treatment Material Emissions Factors

aPriori leverages Surface Treatment material carbon emission factors from Ecoinvent, a comprehensive global database for Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data.

Ecoinvent v3.11 updates datasets used in the calculation of all aPriori consumable materials. In particular:

  • Updates to the zinc material dataset have significantly increased the zinc plating and zinc nickel plating carbon emissions factors.
  • Updates to the chromium trioxide flakes dataset have significantly decreased both decorative and hard chrome plating carbon emission factors.

For additional information the Ecoinvent release notes (including a Report of Changes) can be found here.

In the latest RDL release, an error has been resolved in the dataset mapping for the cadmium plating material carbon emissions factor. This results in a significant decrease in the material carbon emissions factor.

The table below shows the updated carbon factors (v3.11) and the percentage changes compared to the previous release, which used Ecoinvent v3.10:

Zinc Plating (up to 0 .65um thick plating) 0.0542 kg CO2e / m^2 / µm 11.52%

Sustainability data for surface treatments is contained in a lookup table and is not updated with the RDLs. If you are using a baseline from aP 2024 R1 SP3 (or using a pre aP 2025 R1 configured Digital Factory), please consider manually updating this data.
