Cost Model Changes that don't Affect Configured Digital Factories¶
The following changes do not affect costings with Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions. The changes are available only in the latest cost model version.

Fine Finish Milling: In the previous release, if a facing, side milling, or contouring operation on a surface could not achieve the tolerance required for that surface, aPriori included a grinding process after milling. (Grinding involves a separate machine and longer cycle times, and it can achieve very tight tolerances.)
In this release, if a surface milling operation cannot achieve the required tolerance, aPriori sometimes follows it with an additional milling pass instead of grinding. aPriori includes an additional milling pass instead of grinding if that would achieve the required tolerance. An additional milling pass involves longer cycle times (due to decreased feeds and sometimes decreased stepover distance) compared to the initial milling pass, but it involves shorter cycle times than a grinding pass.
As a result of this change, times and costs typically decrease for parts with surfaces that are now assigned extra milling passes instead of grinding.
Note:
You can restore the behavior of the previous cost model version by setting the cost model variable fineFinishMillingDisabled to true. You can restore the prior behavior on a per-part basis with the process setup option Disable Fine Finish Milling (provided by the Machining node in the Process Options Editor). Disabling Fine Finish Milling will prevent additional milling passes being considered as an option for achieving tight tolerances.
Additional milling passes are considered for the following processes:
- 3 Axis Bar Feed Lathe with Sub Spindle
- 3 Axis Lathe
- 3 Axis Mill
- 4 Axis Mill
- 5 Axis Mill
-
Mill Turn For those processes, additional milling passes are considered for the following operations (with certain exceptions, listed below): Exceptions: Additional milling passes are not considered for:

- Facing
- Contouring
- Side Milling
- CurvedWall
- Contouring
- Side Milling
- CurvedSurface
- Contouring
- Side Milling
- Surfaces that are children of Ring GCDs
