Cost Model Changes that Do Not Affect Configured Digital Factories

The following changes do not affect costings with Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions. The changes are available only in the latest cost model version (CMV220).

  • Sustainability Data (impacts carbon estimates only): This release includes updates to carbon factors for consumables, which are contained in the lookup table processConsumables. See also Sustainability Insights Enhancements in the aP Pro Release Notes.
  • Secondary Machining: The latest cost model better determines when cast parts require secondary machining, and eliminates evaluation of optional machining operations when they are not required. Previously, aPriori assigned machining operations to create holes with countersinks or rounded edges even when casting alone would be sufficient.

To obtain these improvements, you must upgrade to the latest Machining cost model (CMV 380) as well as the latest Casting - Sand cost model.

As a result of these changes, manufacturing estimates will change slightly compared to the previous release. In a large set of test parts:

    • For parts that previously used non-required machining operations, cycle time decreased by 4.5% on average.
    • When holes were no longer fully machined, material utilization increased by up to 4.5%.
    • Costing analysis times decreased by 2% on average.
