2-Model Machining¶
Geometry or Cost Engine Changes that Could Impact Configured Digital Factories¶
The following changes might impact costing, even for Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions.
-
Intelligent Auto-alignment of Source and Finished Models (no impact on cost, design guidance, or carbon estimates): In order to determine the differences between the source and finished models, aPriori first aligns the models in 3D space. In previous releases, if the modeled parts' positions and orientations within their default coordinate systems did not match, costing failed. In this release, if the parts' positions and orientations do not match, aPriori aligns the models using sophisticated algorithms to compare the models' solid geometry. As a result of these changes, aPriori can now analyze some parts that previously could not be analyzed. For parts that previously could be analyzed, these changes have no effect.
Note that there still may be some cases in which aPriori cannot properly align the models even using the new algorithms, particularly when parts are “fully machined” so that none of the original surfaces from the source (net shape) model are preserved. In such cases, as in previous releases, you may be able to modify the CAD models to enable aPriori to analyze them—see Part alignment.

Cost Model Changes that Do Not Affect Configured Digital Factories¶
