2-Model Machining¶
Geometry or Cost Engine Changes that Could Impact Configured Digital Factories¶
The following changes might impact costing, even for Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions.
-
Pockets and Slots: In previous releases, geometry extraction for Stock Machining recognized certain volumetric features as Pocket and Slot GCDs, but 2-Model Machining did not. Extraction for 2-Model Machining included such volumes in the BulkRemoval GCD. Material-removal calculations for such volumes used a single, volumetric-removal rate regardless of feature size and orientation.
In this release, 2-Model Machining extracts these features as Slot and Pocket GCDs, and uses the same rough milling operations as Stock Machining, which take into account the approach direction as well as the appropriate tool sizes and cut depths for each Pocket and Slot.
It is not necessary to upgrade your cost model version to leverage this new capability. However, the new cost model improves the accuracy of cycle time estimates for Pockets and Slots from the source model that are enlarged in the target model. Such estimates may be inflated if you do not upgrade your cost model. In a large set of customer parts, fewer than 10% of parts had enlarged pockets.
Bug Fixes or Small Improvements to Prior Cost Model Versions¶
The following changes might impact costing for Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions.

Cost Model Changes that Do Not Affect Configured Digital Factories¶
The following changes do not affect costings with Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions. The changes are available only in the latest cost model version.

Pockets and Slots: The cost model now supports Pocket and Slot GCDs. For Pockets and Slots from the source model that are enlarged in the target model, aPriori uses the Removed Volume property to estimate the depth of material that is machined away from the walls of these features, and in turn determines the number and sizes of rough milling tools required. For very shallow estimated cut depths, a finishing pass suffices and no rough milling tools are required.
