Geometry or Cost Engine Changes that Could Impact Configured Digital Factories

The following changes might impact costing, even for Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions.

  • Stock Form Recognition and Small Modeling Errors: In previous releases, small modeling errors sometimes caused aPriori to select the wrong stock form or fail to select any stock form. For example, if the dimensions for the left and right walls of a channel-shaped part differed slightly, aPriori failed to select channel stock because of the slight asymmetry. In this release, stock form recognition is more forgiving of small modeling errors, and aPriori more often selects the intended stock form.

    As a result of this change, stock selection succeeds in this release for some parts for which it previously failed. For customers who license aPriori extrusions, aPriori may now select channel stock for some parts for which it previously selected extruded stock.

  • Stock Form Recognition and Aspect-ratio Constraints: This release imposes new aspect-ratio constraints on the selection of I-beam and T-beam stock.

    • For I-beam and T-beam stock, the ratio of stock width to web width must be greater than or equal to the value of the new site variable minBeamStockWidthToWebWidthRatio (3.0 by default).
    • For T-beam stock, the ratio of flange thickness to stock height must be less than or equal to the value of the new site variable maxTBeamFlangeThicknessToStockHeightRatio (0.5 by default). To disable these aspect-ratio constraints, set the new site variables to 0.
