Geometry or Cost Engine Changes that Could Impact Configured Digital Factories¶
The following changes might impact costing, even for Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions.
-
Tiny Contact Regions (can affect clamping and sealing costs): In the previous release aPriori extracted Contact Region GCDs corresponding to very small regions of contact that likely were unintentional modeling errors or did not represent valid joining surfaces.
In this release, aPriori will not recognize an area of contact as a ContactRegion GCD when the contact length is less than the value of the site variable minContactRegionLengthMm (1.00mm, by default). In addition, aPriori will not recognize an area of contact as a ContactRegion GCD when the contact area is less than the value of the site variable minContactRegionAreaMm (0.10 mm2, by default). As a result, in the rare cases involving very small contact regions, some clamping and sealing costs may decrease compared to the previous release.
Note:
To restore the behavior of the previous release, set the values of both the site variables minContactRegionLengthMm and minContactRegionAreaMm to 0.00.
Bug Fixes or Small Improvements to Prior Cost Model Versions¶
The following changes might impact costing for Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions.
- NO IMPACT
Cost Model Changes that Do Not Affect Configured Digital Factories¶
The following changes do not affect costings with Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions. The changes are available only in the latest cost model version.
- Programming Time for Robotic Welding: In this release, robotic welding processes account for programming costs. As a result, welding costs increase slightly, compared to the previous release. Programming cost is amortized over the entire production run so has a smaller effect as production volumes increase. In a test set of assemblies containing between 40 to 50 welds, with assumed production volumes of 1000, fully burdened cost increased by less than 1%.
