Forging¶
Geometry or Cost Engine Changes that Could Impact Configured Digital Factories¶
The following changes might impact costing, even for Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions.
- Cross Sectional Analysis GCD (no cost impact): This release provides a new Forging GCD, Cross Sectional Analysis, which the latest Forging cost model uses for improved stock selection and improved material utilization estimates. If you do not upgrade your cost model version, this change has no cost impact.
- Turning Axis and AxiGroove Extraction (can impact operation assignment and cycle times): This release extracts a TurningAxis and AxiGroove GCD for the following types of gear parts:
- The gear feature occupies the entire length of the part.
- The outermost surface of the teeth is either planar or a curved surface that is not rotationally symmetric about the part’s turning axis. Previously, no TurningAxis or Axigroove was extracted for such geometry. As a result of this change, parts modeled this way now will include TurningAxis and Axigroove GCDs when they did not in previous releases.
Bug Fixes or Small Improvements to Prior Cost Model Versions¶
The following changes might impact costing for Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions.
- NO IMPACT
Cost Model Changes that Do Not Affect Configured Digital Factories¶
The following changes do not affect costings with Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions. The changes are available only in the latest cost model version.
Note:
These are the first in a series of planned enhancements to the Forging cost model. Further enhancements will be released in 25.1.0 and 25.1.1. Customers who already are using a configured Closed-Die Forging model may wish to delay upgrading their cost model until these additional enhancements are available. Please consult your aPriori account team or aPriori Support for planning purposes.
-
Mult Volume (impacts material cost and stock selection): This release provides several improvements to the computation of the mult volume required for a given forging and the resulting estimate of material utilization:
- Part complexity is now considered when estimating flash volume.
- Scale loss is now included in the determination of required material volume.
- Improved logic is now used for calculating the volume of pierced material.
- Kerf width lost during cutting of the stock into mults is now calculated and used in the material utilization estimate.
-
Stock End loss is now calculated and used in the material utilization estimate. As a result, stock selection, material cost, and material utilization may change, compared to the previous release.
-
Stock Selection (impacts stock selection): This release updates and enhances the stock selection logic for Forging. For each candidate routing, aPriori now considers a variety of candidate stocks and selects the one that results in the lowest fully-burdened part cost. By default, the candidate stocks are the 5 valid stocks with the lowest estimated material cost. (Digital Factory administrators can configure the number of candidate stocks with the cost model variable validMaterialStocksListLimit .) A valid stock is one with an appropriate stock form for which the resulting mult dimensions and mult volume are in range. As a result of this change, a different stock may be selected, compared to the previous release.
