Cost Model Changes that Do Not Affect Configured Digital Factories

The following changes do not affect costings with Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions. The changes are available only in the latest cost model version.

  • Part Spacing Calculation (impacts process routing, material costs, and tooling costs): This release improves the part-to-part and part-to-sheet-edge spacing calculation for positive tools (negative tools are unaffected). In a set of test parts, using default settings (one part per sheet and a positive mold type), the following cost increases were found when compared with the previous release (23.1.1), due to the increased sheet size:

    • Material Cost increased by an average of 33% with a maximum increase of 156%.
    • Fully Burdened Cost increased by an average of 14% with a maximum increase of 66%.

  • Vertical Band Saw Process (impacts process routing, material costs, and tooling costs): This release includes a Vertical Band Saw process for separating nested parts. aPriori automatically includes the Vertical Band Saw when you increase the value of the setup option Number of Parts per Sheet to a value greater than the default value of 1 (therefore, by default, there will be no cost impact of this update). In a set of test parts, with Number of Parts per Sheet set to 2, (and including the updated part spacing calculation described above), the following increases were found when compared with the previous release (23.1.1):

    o Cycle Time increased by an average of 53% – this was driven primarily by the addition of the new Vertical Band Saw process.

    o Fully Burdened Cost increased by an average of 43% with a maximum increase of 103% – this was driven by the addition of the new Vertical Band Saw process and the updated part spacing calculation (described above).

    o Material Cost increased by an average of 40% – this was driven by the updated part spacing calculation (described above).
