Cost Model Changes that Do Not Affect Configured Digital Factories¶
The following changes do not affect costings with Digital Factories that use earlier cost model versions. The changes are available only in the latest cost model version.
Note:
These are the second in a series of planned enhancements to the Forging cost model. Further enhancements will be released in 25.1.1. Customers who already are using a configured Closed-Die Forging model may wish to delay upgrading their cost model until these additional enhancements are available. Please consult your aPriori account team or aPriori Support for planning purposes.

Stock Selection (impacts virtual stock selection): This release updates and enhances virtual stock selection logic for Forging. For each candidate routing, aPriori now considers a variety of candidate virtual stocks and selects the one that results in the lowest fully-burdened part cost. By default, the candidate stocks are the 3 valid stocks with the highest estimated material utilization for the part. (A valid stock is one with an appropriate stock form for which the resulting mult dimensions and mult volume are in range.) Digital Factory administrators can configure the number of candidate stocks with the cost model variable virtualMaterialStocksListLimit .
As a result of this change, a different stock may be selected, compared to the previous release. To restore the behavior of the previous release, set the cost model variable virtualMaterialStocksListLimit to 1.

New Process: Vertical Mechanical Press (no impact; in this release, the process must be included manually): The Forging process group now provides a Vertical Mechanical Press routing in addition to the Hammer process routing that was available in previous releases. The process model includes logic to select a machine and determine cycle time; the model does not currently account for tooling cost.
The 2025-03 Regional Data libraries provide machines with press forces ranging from 1,250 to 10,000 tons. These presses are equipped with an automated transfer mechanism to move the part between die stations, so a single operator can supervise the machine. By default, the process model assumes that three die stations are needed to forge the part (controlled by the cost model variable mechanicalPressNumberOfStations) and that parts are forged one at a time (only one station is occupied at any given time). Stroke rate and required press force calculations are sensitive to part complexity.

New Setup Options for Specifying Virtual Stock and Mult dimensions (no impact by default, but see Stock Selection, above): : New setup options on the Material Stock node allow users to specify virtual stock dimensions and mult lengths: Virtual Stock Width/Diameter, Virtual Mult Length, and Virtual Stock Length.. When you use one of these setup options to override the default, aPriori uses virtual stock. To use actual (non-virtual) stock with specific dimensions, select the desired stock from the Material Stock section of the Material Selection dialog.
